A quick update on some of our illustrious WHS athletics group alumni and what they are getting up to around the world.

Maggie Jones our multiple times N.Z hurdles champion, and N.Z secondary schools team member is about to head back to the States and into the last semester of her scholarship studying and competing at the University of Texas A&M Corpus Christi and will graduate in December.

Flynn Johnston who was also a national hurdle medallist and part of the N.Z secondary school team, is in the last year of his scholarship in the U.S and has recently transferred from Black Hills state University to the University of Central Washington in search of a higher level of competition and performance.

Damian Hodgson current national men’s 400mtr hurdle champion and N.Z secondary school team member, has recently signed a 4-year scholarship with the University of Western Alabama. He leaves 10th August to take up his scholarship and will begin competing in the U.S Indoor season in January 27.

Rebecca Baker who was a member of N.Z secondary school athletics and Cross-Country teams and N.Z Hockey team while at WHS, recently ran at the north island cross country champs taking 4th place in the senior women’s in her first race in years. She has also just been announced in the N.Z women’s Black Sticks team for the Hockey world cup in Belgium / Holland in August and will leave soon to take up this very exciting opportunity.

Lastly Nat Kirk ex N.Z secondary school hurdles champion and N.Z secondary schools team member, who returned this year as assistant coach of the WHS Athletics and Cross-Country squads, has also recently put his skills to great effect and has teamed up with 3 major sporting brands to manage part of their social media and marketing offerings. Nat will work online which will enable him to stay local and keep up his coaching, training and promotion of the great work happening here at WHS.
